Durham Farm & Rural Family Resources
DFRFR is a registered charitable non-profit corporation supported by grants, fundraising and donations.

DFRFR has been established to provide quality and flexible children’s services to farm and rural families.

Volunteers
Volunteers are encouraged and welcomed to help in a variety of ways. Share your talents and be part of a service that is essential to the children and their care providers of our community.

DFRFR recognizes the partnerships with the Ontario Early Years Centre Haliburton Victoria Brock Inc. program to deliver the program in Cannington, and the YMCA of Greater Toronto to deliver the program in Uxbridge (905 852-7001 Tuesday, Wednesday & Thursday 9-2 Oct to May Free Methodist Church).

Play To Learn
The Centres are friendly, stimulating environments where parents, grandparents or caregivers and children 0-6 years old can play and learn together. Qualified staff are present to address parenting concerns and questions.

The Learning Centre
Features a variety of age-appropriate activities. Some of these are:

  • Paint and create in the Art area
  • Dress up in the Drama area
  • Build in the Construction area
  • Or curl up with a book in the Quiet area
  • Each day features a Circle Time

Toy Lending Library
Beat toy boredom without spending a fortune. Toys, books, puzzles and theme kits with a variety of activities are available.

Parent Reference Library
A selection of reading and listening material on parenting and child care issues.

Child Care Registry
DFRFR has been building a registry of home day care providers.
For caregivers:

  • A registry is easily accessible by parents
  • A kit of tips for success, and some activity/craft ideas – updates occur regularly
  • Ongoing promotion of your business

For parents:

  • Easy initial comparison
  • Information to help you make your day care decisions

Workshops/seminars
Workshops & seminars are held in cooperation with other agencies and organizations to provide parenting and child care education.

Topics depend on expressed needs of the users of the programs and range from informational sessions to interactive hands on sessions.

On Farm Child Care
The programs operates from June to September (actual dates depend on availability of student placement grants)
This flexible on-the-farm program is designed to provide quality child care for farm families. During the hours the caregivers are present the parents can concentrate on farm work during peak times without having their children in the workplace. This is a safety measure for parents and children alike.
Caregivers have knowledge of behaviour management, programming for children, farm & home safety, and basic infant care.

Maximum usage is 9 hours per day with a minimum charge of 4 hours. Child care fees are based on the number of children.
